Westland Man Charged For Killing 72-Year-Old Detroit Resident

WESTLAND, MI — A Westland man was charged Tuesday for killing a 72-year-old Detroit man, Prosecutor Kym Worthy's office said.

Officers found Edward McClendon dead at a Detroit home on Nov. 18 at 11:30 a.m. on the 19710 block of Robson St., police said.

McClendon was face down on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to the head and a stab wounds to the stomach and chest, police said.

Messelmani was placed in jail on Nov. 21. A probable cause conference is scheduled for Dec. 1 and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Dec. 8 in 36th District Court before Judge Kenneth King, the prosecutor's office said.

Investigators believe Messelmani stabbed McClendon multiple times and then shot him with a shotgun, which fatally wounded him, police said.

Messelmani was also the in-home caregiver for Mr. McClendon, the prosecutor's office said.

Messelmani fled the scene, but later turned himself into authorities the same day, the prosecutor's office said.
