Avondale Academy announces Open House

Alternative high school program accepting applications for 2015-16 school year

Avondale Academy in Rochester Hills is now accepting applications for students motivated to earn their high school diploma in a non-traditional setting. The school is hosting an Open House this Saturday, May 30th from 8am to noon where students and parents can tour the facility and meet staff members.

The Academy, located at 1435 W. Auburn Road in Rochester Hills, delivers a challenging curriculum aligned with State of Michigan benchmarks and standards. In addition, the school offers mentoring and tutoring; manageable class sizes for more personalized attention; a highly-qualified staff; and accessible administrators. A dedicated counseling staff provides guidance and information to help students continue their education in a variety of post-secondary opportunities.

“The goal of Avondale Academy is really to put young adults on a forward moving track and encourage them to pursue education after graduation so that they can achieve their career goals,” said the school’s principal, Taylor Chapman. “We want all of our students to graduate with the tools they need to find their passion and then follow that path to success.”

The school supports students reaching their goals by providing career and college education throughout the year. Students have opportunity to participate in College Application Week, Financial Aid Information Night, the NACAC Metro Detroit National College Fair, Reach Higher College Decision Day and college tours. “We know that not every student has career goals that require attending a four-year college so we make sure that we provide information about trade and technical schools, apprenticeships and certifications programs, and two-year college degrees,” added Chapman.

Avondale Academy students who qualify have the option to participate in the accelerated college experience program, Oakland ACE, while other students can attend OSTC – Oakland Schools Technical Campus. “There are so many options for our students to take advantage of. Ninety percent of the Academy Class of 2015 has been accepted to post-secondary institutions. It’s nice to see the students taking advantage of what we have to offer.”
