Macomb Co. School District Closes After Antisemitic Death Threat: Cops

Police described the threatening note as "containing antisemitic remarks" directed at a middle school staff member.

RICHMOND, MI — A Macomb County school district closed all its schools this week after officials found an antisemitic death threat, the school district said.

The threat was found Tuesday by staff members at Richmond Middle School, forcing all schools in the district into lockdown, officials said. Students were not in class Tuesday at any of the schools in the district because they were closed for staff shortages.

Police described the threatening note as "containing antisemitic remarks" directed at a middle school staff member, their spouse and their children. The threat was not directed toward students, the building or the district as a whole, officials said.

Police did not identify who the middle school administrator is, but said they were notified of the threat.

School officials turned over the threatening note, security camera footage and door access digital records to police for their investigation, officials said.

"This is beyond comprehension that someone would threaten the safety of an employee and their family," Superintendent Brian Walmsley said.

The district's schools will be closed through Friday and are expected to reopen Monday. Athletic events scheduled through Friday were to be determined on a day-today basis, officials said.

Anyone with information about the threat was asked to call Detective Roberts at 586-727-4000.
