OU Faculty Go On Strike

The professors union and the university failed to reach a labor agreement, but the college still says classes and other activities remain.

ROCHESTER, MI — Oakland University's professors on Thursday went on strike after union officials failed to reach a labor agreement with the university, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Thursday was the first day of classes at the university and despite the strike, the university said on Twitter that classes and all other activities are still on, but that students should first check to see if meetings are being held.

The issue between the two sides revolves around pay and benefits, the Free Press said.

"Faculty negotiators were seeking cost of living increases and compensation for professors who earned exemplary performance scores from administration for teaching and research in the pandemic year."
