OU Medical Student Earns More Than $117K Selling Used Clothes: Report
Olivia Hillier said she spends hours at thrift stores sorting through clothes, some of which sell for anywhere between $20-$200.
ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — An Oakland University medical student created her own side hustle by selling used clothes, earning more than $117,000 in total revenue, including $85,000 last year alone, according to an NBC News report.
Staring at more than $220,000 in student loans, Olivia Hillier began her side hustle using the Poshmark app in August 2020, when she noticed that other sellers were posting thousands of unique items, the report said.
Hillier said she spends hours at thrift stores sorting through clothes, some of which sell for anywhere between $20-$200. It's a routine she has mastered and helped her purchase a five-bedroom home in Kansas, the report said.

"A lot of people can't get a stable job in med school because they don't have the time or flexibility," Hillier said. "It's nice to not only have time to do something I like, but afford other things ... I want to keep this business going through residency, and I hope to continue it when I'm an attending doctor."
