Oxford Students Start New School Year After Last Year's Mass Shooting
Oxford Schools celebrated its first day back for the 2022-23 school year Thursday with 98 percent attendance across the district.
OXFORD, MI — Oxford Schools celebrated the first day back for the 2022-23 school year Thursday with 98 percent attendance across the district's buildings, school officials said.
Oxford High School also rolled out new security procedures, such as new technology that can identify weapons, in an effort to enhance the school's overall program. Clear backpacks will also be required. The school also installed warning lights in the school to indicate a lockdown.
There will also be an OK2SAY system that allows students and staff to report tips by text or email anonymously.

The new security measures accompanied by students returning to school also come at a time as many in the community still want answers to what happened on Nov. 30, when a student opened fire inside the school, killing four classmates and wounding seven other people.
The district rejected a free offer from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel to conduct the review, instead opting for two independent law firms to investigate the events leading up to the deadly shooing at Oxford High School on Nov. 30.
