Dearborn, MI — The parents of a 2-year-old Dearborn girl who drowned last week after climbing into a next-door swimming pool will face murder, manslaughter and child abuse charges, authorities said Friday morning.
The parents, Amber Johnson and James Johnson III, were arraigned on a charge each of second-degree murder, homicide-involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse in Dearborn 19th District Court Friday. Judge Sam Salamey set bond for each at $1 million.

A probable cause conference will be held on June 24, and Johnsons' preliminary exams are set for July 1.
“The alleged actions and inactions of the defendants in this case defy common sense," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement. "Once again we are left with a child, whose death was completely preventable.”

"They both managed to climb the chain link fence which allowed them access to the neighbor’s yard," police said in the news release. "It appears the 2-year old victim was able to climb the pool ladder and into the pool."
The homeowner looked out and saw the toddler in her pool and immediately pulled her out and began administering CPR, police said.
The 3-year old child was uninjured.
