Not every entity meets regularly. Meetings are posted but fewer than a handful are televised. So we don't see the mayor and commissioners working there, often with volunteers, reading the minutes at home, communicating by telephone and email: Invisible service.
Of this group, I have sat on committees with Poulton, where David is the same quietly attentive participant that he is at The Table. Of past commissioners: Chuck Semchena, combative at The Table, behaved collegially and never pulled rank on the volunteers; Pat Capello encouraged the volunteers to decide how long meetings should last and to choose a Chair from among themselves; Carlo Ginotti kept us focused with the same tone as a friendly game of cards; Mike Andrzejak was impersonally cordial and businesslike. Two or three past commissioners were frankly lightweight and ineffective when conducting business with volunteers.
Speaking of volunteers, hundreds of residents have provided mostly invisible service over decades, serving on committees and commissions.
