Snow Totals Updated: Hour-By-Hour Forecast for Metro Detroit

If you can duck out of work early today, you may miss the worst of a fast-moving winter storm.

METRO DETROIT, MI – The National Weather Service says some areas of Oakland County could get up to 9 inches of snow in a fast-moving system bearing down on Metro Detroit Tuesday afternoon and evening.

The rush-hour commute could be particularly dicey, with a wintery mix is expected to begin about 4 p.m. Snow is expected to be the heaviest between 4 and 8 p.m. Counties included in a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service include Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw.

“That’s going to impact the evening commute,” National Weather Service meteorologist Deb Elliot told the Detroit Free Press. “It will be a little bit windy, too. Drivers could see some reduced visibility, blowing snow and some ice-covered roads. So commuters need to be prepared for slippery roads when they’re driving home this afternoon.”
