Accused killer of sex worker competent for trial (theoaklandpress.com) — A man accused in the fatal shooting of a transgender sex worker in Southfield has been ruled mentally competent to stand trial, clearing the way for a December 7 court date. Police say the victim was found outside Riverstone Apartments on Shiawassee Road and that phone records and a recovered handgun link the suspect to the killing. He remains jailed without bond. 
2. Ex-Southfield music teacher found guilty of multiple sexual assault charges (clickondetroit.com) — A former Southfield Public Schools music teacher has been convicted of multiple child sex offenses that occurred on school grounds during the 2022–23 school year, following an Oakland County jury trial. Authorities say at least five student victims were identified, and the teacher later worked briefly in Detroit schools before being placed on leave. Sentencing is scheduled for October 1.
3. 1 white student enrolled at University High School Academy in 2024-25 (seoaklandnews.com) — If you have students in Southfield Public Schools, new state data shows University High School Academy enrolled just one white student in 2024-25, with nearly 97% of students identifying as African American. The report, which tracks a decade of enrollment trends, also notes Thompson K-8 International Academy has the district's highest white enrollment and outlines Michigan's increased per-pupil funding and continued free school meals.
4. Rep. Bollin joins Habitat for Humanity volunteers for day of service (gophouse.org) — A new Habitat for Humanity home is going up in Southfield, with state Rep. Ann Bollin joining Oakland County volunteers and a partner family for Michigan's Legislative Habitat Build Day.
