McKeen & Associates Supports Children in Foster Through Comfort & Care Initiative

McKeen staff participated in Injury Board Day of Action to provide children in foster care with backpacks filled with thoughtful items.

As part of the 2026 Injury Board Day of Action, McKeen & Associates, joined law firms across the country to participate in The Comfort & Care Initiative, a nationwide campaign focused on supporting children entering foster care through thoughtfully assembled “Comfort Kits” filled with essential items and messages of encouragement.

The initiative was coordinated by the Injury Board (IB) and took place on June 25, 2026. The IB is a national community of plaintiff trial attorneys committed to building safer, stronger communities. This year’s campaign focuses on helping children during one of life’s most vulnerable transitions: entering foster care.

In partnership with the Ennis Center for Childen, McKeen & Associates, assembled Comfort Kits designed to provide both practical support and a sense of care to children arriving in unfamiliar situations. The backpack kits included blankets, toys, hygiene supplies, water bottles, notebooks, and other items along with handwritten notes of encouragement.

More than 390,000 children are currently in foster care across the United States, and many enter the system with few or no personal belongings. A simple backpack filled with essentials can provide not only comfort, but also a sense of normalcy and reassurance during an uncertain time.

“Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can have the biggest impact,” said Brian McKeen, founder and managing partner, McKeen & Associates. “A Comfort Kit sends an important message to a child: someone prepared something just for you, and someone cares.”
