Grand Prix looking for last few volunteers!

The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix is still looking for a few volunteers to help with the race. The rolls close May 1, but many of the volunteer areas are still looking for help. Whether you like racing or not, it's exciting to be part of the action of such a huge event. It also shines a bright spotlight on Detroit as it will be nationally televised both Saturday and Sunday on ABC.

Go to www.detroitgp.com to register; there is a $15 membership fee to join the Detroit Grand Prix Association, the organization that provides all the volunteers for the race. Included with your registration are shirts for the weekend; a race hat; off-Island parking and shuttle; and morning coffee, lunch and water all day! (It also includes several parties!!)

You must sign up for all three days (May 31, 1 and 2), plus a three-hour training session on the Island about ten days before the event. You can choose to work all day (7 to 7), or one of two shifts: 7-ish to 3, or 11-ish to 7.

It's a great experience for adults over 18 if you have the freedom to volunteer all day Friday, May 31.  I'm one of the volunteer leaders in the Hospitality area, so if you would like to talk to me personally about the experience before you officially sign-up, please contact me at mellbee@earthlink.net.

It's a wonderful experience and I invite you to be part of the action this year...and future years!
