Secrets to 25 Years of Success for St. Clair Shores Business

When a friend told me a St. Clair Shores tanning salon is celebrating 25 years in business, I was intrigued!  Many want to talk about what is failing; I like to talk about what is succeeding!  So I spoke with one of the owners to see what the secret to their success has been.

Kim and Rob have been business partners for 25 years, with Scott joining them for the last 13 years.  Their first 6 bed tanning salon, "Sundays", in 1988, was on Greater Mack between 8 and 9 mile.  Living in the city at the time and valuing the friendships of their growing clientele, they moved and expanded to 9 mile and the 9 Mack Drive.  In 2002,  they opened a second location on Harper north of 8 mile.  Most recently, they decided to merge the businesses, doubling the size of the Harper location, expanding the services they offer, and wanting to stay in St. Clair Shores to better serve their loyal clientele; this developed into "Sundays Sun Spa".  Kim said, "We have been innovators in our industry, remaining strong, and continuing to evolve and grow.  The industry as a whole has changed and we continue to roll with the changes and adjust to the needs of our clients."

Looking at the services they offer is impressive.  For tanning services, they now have 18 tanning beds, offering 6 different levels, to fit the needs of the individual client.  If sun exposure is a concern for some or an instant glow is the preferred result, they offer Sunless Airbrush Tan that gives a beautiful glow in 20 minutes.  The spa services offered are LipoLaser for losing inches in troubled areas; Infrared Heat Body Wraps to sweat away toxins, burn calories, smooth out cellulite, which can also ease chronic pain while soothing away daily stress; LED Light Therapy is anti-aging and evens out skin tone.  Young clients have used it to heal acne and smooth scarring.  Kim adds,"This gives clients, new clear skin, which can be life changing for them".  The salon also offers a full line of products.

Along with offering a variety of services and loyalty to their clients, they also have focused on great customer service.  Each team member must complete extensive hands-on training and testing to qualify to work with their clients.  All employees are "Sundays Team Members" working together to create a positive, friendly and knowledgeable environment.  The owners are part of the daily functioning of the business, feeling it is important to keep communication with clients and staff open.  "Going to work to serve the people who mean so much to us each day is a pleasure and a passion", said Kim.  Great customer service also includes honesty, helping a client find what fits their needs, and cleanliness, to provide a continuously clean environment.

When you think they have done it all, they also utilize social media such as Facebook, Twitter, a website, and send out emails with specials, to clients that participate, as a "thank you" for their loyalty.
