Postal Worker Accused of Stealing Mail, Pocketing Cash Claims She Was 'Bored'

Federal authorities reportedly found hundreds of pieces of mail discarded in the woman's trash, as well as a few bags of mail in her closet.

A metro Detroit postal worker said she was “bored” and that’s why she stole as many as 2,000 pieces of mail – mostly greeting cards – kept cash inside of the envelopes and dumped mail she didn’t want along Interstate 94.

The Associated Press is reporting that federal authorities allege Sharon Berrien was working at a Detroit mail processing center when she allegedly stole the mail and pocketed between $1,000 and $1,500. She was charged with mail theft Monday.

When investigators, who began looking into the thefts after the mail was found along Pelham Road and I-94 in October, asked her why she took the mail, she reportedly said, “I was bored.”
