Troy High Student Receives Perfect Score on AP Physics Exam

Being 1 of only 2 students out of 49,317 students in the WORLD to achieve a perfect score - INCREDIBLE

Everyone knows that AP (Advanced Placement) Tests are difficult and require years of study in order to do well to get that coveted 5 points. But when Troy High Senior Reagan Choi received the email that he had received a perfect score in the AP Physics-C Mechanics exam taken last May, it didn’t quite seem real. “I was completely surprised when I got the email! I wasn't planning or hoping for it at all, as it's easy to make a small mistake in the multiple choice or free response,” said Choi. “At first when I saw the email, I didn't even consider it a possibility - I thought the email was just about a score of 5. It felt amazing to find out that I had accomplished what I had always thought of as just a dream!”

Choi forwarded the email to his counselor Jesse Allgeier, who did a double take. “I have never, in my 18 years as a counselor, seen this happen," said Allgeier. "I called College Board to verify the legitimacy of this email and Reagan is, in fact, 1 of 2 students IN THE WORLD who answered every single question perfectly on the AP Physics C exam, earning every point possible.”

Even though he was proud to hear the news and always knew it was a possibility, Troy High physics teacher Brian Glynn was pleased but not totally surprised. “I always tell my class that 1 or 2 kids *somewhere* will get a perfect score…and why not one of my students? But actually having one of them in my class and this school is amazing. Very impressive!” Choi credits his teachers and schooling for helping him achieve this milestone. “Mr. Glynn (AP Physics C) and Mr. Hevel (Physics 1) not only taught physics well but made it enjoyable by adding humor and communicating with students. They inspired me to continue studying for physics competitions and learn beyond the classroom level.”

What’s next for Choi after this accomplishment? “I hope to attend MIT for college. Since I enjoy math and computer science as much as I do physics, I plan to study a combination of these disciplines in college.” He’s already on his way.
