Troy Students Compete on All-Star Team of "Mathletes"
The team made a great appearance at this year's national competition.
The Michigan All-Stars are a team of "mathletes", 45 of the top high school students in the state, who come together in the spring to practice and compete in a national team math competition, the American Regions Math League (ARML, www.arml.com) competition. This is the 24th year that Michigan has participated in the event.
The contest was June 1, with 3 teams from Michigan traveling to the midwest site at the University of Iowa.
Each made notable performances. The Michigan A1 Reals placed 15th nationally out of 78 teams in the A division and 2nd at the Iowa competition. The Michigan A2 Naturals ranked 59th nationally, and the Michigan B1 Primes participated in the B division, placing 15th nationally out of 61 teams and 5th at the Iowa site.
Students hailed from all over the Detroit and Ann Arbor areas, with twelve residents of Troy including:
Safal Bora, Sathvik Byreddy, Steven Cheng, Dhruv Medarametla, who was an individual high scorer, Richard Mu, Skanda Palani, Lawrence Wu, Justin Xu and Devin Zhang all representatives of Troy high school; Dian Mattingly and Michael Yu who go to Troy Athens, and Anirudh Sridhar who attends International Academy.
