Police Chase Ends with a Crash in Wyandotte

The chase began in Ecorse and ended when the driver crashed at Biddle and Eureka.

A police chase that began in Ecorse ended in Wyandotte at about 10 p.m. Monday when a man crashed the vehicle he was driving into a utility pole at Biddle and Eureka.

The 22-year-old Romulus man was arrested on an outstanding felony drug possession charge and for driving with a suspended license, Chief Daniel Grant said. The man is expected to have additional charges levied for leading police on a two-city chase.

Wyandotte officers assisted by ensuring that major intersections along Biddle were clear of other traffic, Grant said. At one point, a Wyandotte officer clocked the man going in excess of 80 mph down Biddle, Grant said.

"He was moving along at a real good clip, certainly well in excess of the speed limit," the chief said.

The man crashed into a utility pole as he attempted to turn westbound onto Eureka, mere feet from one of Wyandotte's most prized landmarks.

"Thank goodness he did not hit our fine ," Grant said.

Wyandotte Patch reader Jackie Meredith said she witnessed the whole thing.

"I was walking my dog and was at the corner of 3rd and Sycamore when I heard the police cars," she wrote on the Wyandotte Patch Facebook page. "I looked up in time to see a white car come around the corner at Eureka and Biddle and crash into the pole in front of the totem and the fountain. All the police cars where right there behind it. I'm glad we were far enough away and not crossing that corner at the time it happened."
