ELY, MN — A three-acre fire is currently burning in the Superior National Forest, according to the United States Forest Service.

The "August Lake Fire" — which was detected Monday with aerial observation — was likely caused by lightning, officials said. It is located near August Lake and is 15 miles southeast of Ely.

The blaze is burning in heavy vegetation "with difficult access." The Forest Service is using both aerial and ground suppression tactics to extinguish the blaze.
