MN Olympians Won Most Medals By State

Residents of Minnesota took home 10 gold medals, one silver and two bronze from the games —​ more than athletes from any other state.

Minnesotans won more Olympic medals in the 2026 Winter Games than athletes from any other state.

Residents of Minnesota took home 10 gold medals, one silver and two bronze from the games, according to Team USA. The Olympics ended Sunday in Milan and Cortina.

Michigan was the state that had the second-highest number of medals, with 11, and California and Colorado tied for third, with eight each.

The 232 members of Team USA surpassed the nation’s previous Olympic Winter Games gold‑medal record, winning 12 in 2026 and besting the record of 10 set in Salt Lake City in 2002.

For the first time in history, both the U.S. women’s and men’s ice hockey teams won gold at the same Winter Olympic Games. Both teams defeated Canada in overtime to claim their third Olympic titles.

Minnesotans on the women’s team included Grace Zumwinkle of Excelsior, Lee Stecklein of Roseville, Kelly Pannek of Plymouth, Taylor Heise of Lake City and Rory Guilday of Chanhassen.

On the men’s team from Minnesota were Jake Oettinger of Lakeville, Brock Nelson of Warroad, Jake Guentzel of Woodbury, Brock Faber of Maple Grove and Jackson LaCombe of Eden Prairie.

Other Minnesota medalists included Cory Thiesse of Duluth, who won the silver for mixed doubles curling, Paula Moltzan of Lakeville, with a bronze in team alpine combined women’s skiing and Jessie Diggins of Afton, taking the bronze in 10-kilometer freestyle women’s cross-country skiing.
