District 196 Teachers Discuss Life During Pandemic: 'I Miss Them'

In an emotional video, teachers from Rosemount, Apple Valley, and Eagan talk about what it's like to teach during COVID-19.

ROSEMOUNT, MN — Education is among the many things that has been forced to change radically amid the coronavirus pandemic. Teachers used to giving lessons and developing relationships with students in-person now have to figure out how to do that online.

For Teacher Appreciation Week, Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan District 196 published an emotional video celebrating their more than 2,000 teachers. It focused on how they've dealt with teaching during the pandemic.

"I miss them, I miss them a lot," says David Myers — a teacher at Rosemount Middle School — while choking back tears.

"In the last few months, you have had to radically change how you educate students," the district said in a Facebook post.

"You recreated your classroom via Zoom and other digital means You have gone above and beyond to build and enhance relationships with students, families and each other. You've discovered solutions to problems that you never thought you would have to deal with. And you have done this with patience, grace and trust. This is no ordinary school year, but you certainly are extraordinary people. We are grateful for you! Thank you!"
