• Apple Valley Redwood Park Playground Opens in October (southmetroscoop.com) — Apple Valley's first inclusive playground at Redwood Park is nearly ready, with a soft opening expected in early-to-mid October once a new safety fence is installed. The city will quietly open the playground first, then hold a bigger ribbon-cutting celebration in spring 2027. Until the fence work wraps up, residents should know the playground is still officially closed.
   

• Apple Valley Council Pay Raise Split Over 2027–2028 (southmetroscoop.com) — Apple Valley's city council narrowly approved a significant pay raise for the mayor and council members, phased in over 2027 and 2028 after this November's election. Supporters say higher pay makes serving more accessible for working residents, while opponents worry about optics compared with staff raises. The change, estimated at about $35,000 a year, will come from contingency funds, not a direct tax hike.
   

• Apple Valley Fire Station Open Houses Oct. 6–8, 2026 (southmetroscoop.com) — Apple Valley is marking Fire Prevention Week with open houses at all three fire stations from 6–8 p.m. on October 6, 7 and 8, 2026. Families can tour trucks, spray hoses, and learn about safely charging lithium-ion batteries, while the city also gathers public input for its 2050 plan. It's a hands-on way to teach kids and adults practical fire safety at home.
