Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan District Buys Land For Future School
The school district could swell to 34,000 students in the next 10 years, thanks to new residential development.

ROSEMOUNT, MN — The Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school board Aug. 13 approved the purchase of a 34-acre parcel of land in Rosemount as a potential site for a new elementary school.
The land is located on the southwest corner of the intersection of Bonaire Path and Akron Avenue, east of Highway 3 and north of County Road 42. It is directly north of UMore Park.
The district will pay the Rosemount Farms Joint Ownership Group approximately $3.2 million for the parcel.

Enrollment swelled to nearly 500 students last year, approaching 29,000 students total. The district could reach 34,000 students in the next 10 years, officials said.
Most of the development is happening in Lakeville and Rosemount, including the 4,800-acre UMore Park property, which the University of Minnesota has begun selling to developers.
The district purchased the land with funds remaining from the $180 million levy approved by voters in 2015. About $6 million of the funds remain as a result of "careful budgeting, favorable bids and investment earnings on the bonds," officials said.
The district will need to voter approval for funding before a new school can be built on the Rosemount site.
In July, the board discussed bringing up a bond referendum for the November 2019 election for additional school capacity and districtwide facility needs.
