Edina Football Plays Hard, Falls to Wayzata

The Hornets put forth a good effort on the field, but it wasn't enough as Edina lost to Wayzata, 28-6.

If you came to the game Thursday night looking for pretty, you might have found it in the halftime show. But perhaps not when the pigskin was flying. Watching the game was like watching coal miners going to work; it was dirty and both teams were just trying to get the job done. At the end of hte night, Edina just wasn't able to do it.

Edina spent most of the game stuffing the box in an attempt to stop the Wayzata rushing attack. But the Trojans didn’t mind. They decided to pass the ball, allowing them to connect on a pair of touchdown passes.

Offensively, the Hornets struggled to run the football. They spent the night trying to compete with a dominant Trojan defense, but came up with lost yardage. Edina ended the game with -18 yards on the ground.

Moments of greatness came within the passing game, which generated Edina’s only points of the night, but inconsistency in execution plagued the Hornets all night. The Trojans also brought continuous pressure on Edina quarterback Mark Handberg, forcing him to make decisions before he wanted to.
