Edina Swimmers Lose Out on Lake Conference Title
Hornets topped by Minnetonka in the pool on Friday, but defeat Hopkins on the rink Saturday; two Edina Nordic boys ski their way to state.

The boys hockey team saved an otherwise rough weekend for Edina, shutting out Hopkins on Saturday after the boys swimming and diving team joined both basketball squads in defeat on Friday. On the bright side, two Edina Nordic skiers are on their way to state with qualifying sectional performances.
Nordic Skiing: McKlveen, Berntson Qualify For State
Edina boys Nordic skiers Ted McKlveen and Matthew Berntson both qualified for state with top-eight individual finishes at the Section 6 meet at Baker Park on Friday.

The Edina boys swimming and diving team suffered a 108-78 loss at Minnetonka as the Skippers claimed the Lake Conference championship on Friday night.
While the Hornets won eight of 12 events, Minnetonka's depth carried it to victory by means of sweeping many of the second- and third-place positions.
Edina's Max Cartwright won the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley, with Mike Gratz 100- and 200-yard freestyle events and Chico Pagitt claiming first in 1-meter diving.
Boys Hockey: Edina 2, Hopkins 0
Two second-period goals ensured a 2-0 win for the Edina boys hockey team at Hopkins on Saturday. The Hornets improved to 14-6-2 overall and 4-3 in the Lake.
Nick Leer and Ben Walker scored for Edina, while Alex Nelson made 27 saves in the victory that pulled the Hornets to within one point of first place in the conference standings.
Edina remains on the road for a non-conference matchup at Buffalo 7 p.m. Thursday night.
Boys Basketball: Hopkins 87, Edina 81
An 87-81 loss at Hopkins on Friday dropped the Edina boys basketball team to 16-5 overall and 1-2 in the Lake.
The Hornets trailed, 50-32, at halftime but stormed back over the final 18 minutes to make a game of it before losing by six points.
Graham Woodward led the Hornets with 17 points, with Philip DeBerg logging 13 points and both Tom Hoistad and Marley Allison notching 11 points apiece.
Edina travels to Lake-leading Eden Prairie for a 7 p.m. start on Tuesday night.
Girls Basketball: Hopkins 54, Edina 44
The Edina girls basketball team could not hold onto a 24-22 halftime lead Friday, ultimately losing, 54-44, to the visting Hopkins team.
Katybeth Biewen led the Hornets with 13 points, while MC McGrory and Jamie Bresnahan scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the loss.
Edina hosts conference-leading Eden Prairie at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
