(PHOTOS) Hornets Boys Lacrosse Beats Hopkins

The boys advance to the section semifinals against Benilde-St. Margaret's.

The  boys lacrosse team continued its run through the section tournament with a 14-8 win over fourth-ranked Hopkins late last week.

Hopkins opened the game with an early goal, but it was quickly answered by a goal from sophomore midfielder Ted Goltzman. Both teams scored two more goals in the first quarter, leaving it tied going into the second quarter.

Goltzman scored again early in the second quarter, shortly followed by goals from seniors Brian Baker and Danny Regan. Junior attacker Derek Todd closed out the half with Edina’s fourth goal of the second quarter, while junior goalie Austin Dover only allowed one goal, leaving Edina up 7-4 at the half.

Edina scored another four times in the third quarter, while Edina’s defense and goalie mostly locked out the Royals, only allowing two goals.

The Hornets closed out the game with three goals in the final quarter, while Hopkins again scored two.

Dover stopped 10 of 18 shots fired by the Royals, while Todd scored eight goals. Junior Willie Dugan won 16 of 25 faceoffs, helping Edina control the ball.

UP NEXT

The Hornets will head to Benilde-St. Margaret's to face the defending state champions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, in the section semifinal game.
