The Best Patios in Edina Now that Spring Has Sprung
The Cake Eater reveals her favorite Edina spots to nibble, nosh and sip while you enjoy the great outdoors.
With spring finally here, it's time to make the most of it. We've all endured a snow-filled and chilly winter (except you lucky snowbirds) and one fine way to express your appreciation for the sunshine is to eat alfresco. On that score, Edinans have many options—whether they are itching to take their eye-opening lattes, day-ending cocktails or a full dinner service outside.
While some places are still dusting off the seasonal furniture, there's no need to worry. Every eatery within miles that boasts a patio is rushing to catch up with the 60-degree temps we recently experienced and will likely have them up and operational within a week or two. Here's some of my faves to consider for your next meal in the sun.

has already busted out the chairs and tables — and even some cute potted plants — to welcome you to its mallside patio at the Galleria. From early in the morn to closing time, you can take your chai or wine outside and pair it with a decadent panna cotta or a smart soup and sandwich.
I saw a happy luncher devouring a spread plate (yum) while soaking in the rays, while I partook of a delicious spinach parmesan scone. It's an easy way to take a quick break for some fresh, local and organic edibles. Thanks, Lynn Gordon, for bringing your ethos to Edina and letting us drink it in alfresco.

Lakeside Lounging
The patio at boasts the best view in town, bar none. So while the rest of your party bowls and bocces, it would behoove you to dine on the porch or better yet, snuggle under a complimentary blanket near the fire pit on a chilly spring evening. Look out on Centennial Lakes and let the stress of the long week escape, as you select from the extensive menu.
Even if it's a quick lunch you seek, you can experience the fresh air and get a full meal for a paltry $10. Or at the other end of the spectrum, you can live large with a tenderloin ($22) and cocktail from Pinstripes' full bar.
Stay Sunny at Southdale
While the is a huge chain restaurant and I can't always recommend its offerings, I can wholeheartedly endorse their patio as one of my favorite spots at Southdale.
Sip a cocktail or share some cheesecake before a shopping trip or movie date and your companion—whether romantic or platonic—will have a blast. It's a good people watching spot and the epic novel-sized menu will inevitably have something for everyone.
France Avenue En Plein Air
Yes, two restaurants have back-to-back sidewalk seating near 50th and France. And yes, both are great fun. However, the cute decor and french-ish touches make me prefer .
What can I say? I'm a sucker and a francophile who's simply in her element whilst under an umbrella, downing raw mollusks and a Louis or Nicoise salad. And, the brussel sprouts and capellini del mar suit my husband to a T, not to mention the front row seat to gawking at the goings-on in the 'hood.
