The traditions of white dresses and crescent pendants were complemented by warm blue skies.

An open-air reception at Convent of the Visitation School preceded a beautiful ceremony June 5 for 70 graduating students.

Students of the all-female, Roman Catholic prep school donned traditional white dresses to receive their diplomas and the school's signature crescent pendant on a ribbon. Families, friends and teachers gathered after the ceremony to celebrate together.

The crescent, a symbol of youth and promise, represents Saint Francis de Sales, whose teachings provide the moral foundation of the school and adjoining convent. De Sales founded the Visitation Order with Saint Jane de Chantal in 1610.

"The hope is that each young woman will take what she has learned in her time at Visitation, grow in wisdom and grace, and thus complete the full moon throughout the rest of her life," said Patty Healy Janssen, the school's director of marketing.
