Klobuchar, Franken Introduce Senate Bill Honoring Wetterling Family

U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken have introduced a Senate resolution that honors the life of Jacob Wetterling and the efforts of the Wetterling family to prevent child exploitation.

The text of the resolution recognizes the Wetterlings for co-founding the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center and their ability to turn “grief into action” to help other missing and exploited children, according to a news release.

Patty Wetterling is recognized in the resolution for serving on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Board of Directors, serving as the director of the Minnesota Department of Health’s Sexual Violence Prevention unit, helping to pass a federal law that requires states to implement a sex offender registry, and authoring a publication called, “When Your Child is Missing: A Family Survival Guide.”

“Be it resolved that the Senate honors the life of Jacob Wetterling and the efforts of Patty Wetterling and the Wetterling family to prevent child exploitation and abduction across the United States,” the resolution concludes.

The remains of Jacob, who disappeared 27 years ago in St. Joseph, were found earlier this month in Paynesville, Minnesota

Daniel Heinrich confessed in U.S. District Court that he abducted and murdered Jacob on Oct. 22, 1989.
