Newly released salary data detail pay for key appointed officials overseeing finance, engineering, water and sewer, and the police department, offering a clearer picture of how more than $28 million in city payroll is distributed.
   

2. Jail Docket for the week of August 27, 2026 (hubcityspokes.com) — Local law enforcement agencies, including Hattiesburg Police, Lamar and Forrest County authorities, and nearby town departments, have released the latest jail docket for the week of August 27. The list details recent arrests and charges ranging from DUIs and probation violations to burglary and more serious offenses, giving residents a snapshot of current public safety and court activity in the area.
   

3. Late-night shooting sends two students to hospital (hubcityspokes.com) — Two college students were hospitalized after a late-night shooting outside Harbor Bar and Grill in Hattiesburg, and police are still searching for whoever is responsible. Harbor's owners say they've turned over extensive security footage and are tightening parking lot rules, while Hattiesburg Police urge anyone with even small details or videos to contact HPD or Crime Stoppers immediately.
   

4. Forest High teen travels nation with Drum Corps (sctonline.net) — A Forest High School drummer's national Drum Corps tour was sparked when he first saw a corps perform during its annual visit to Hattiesburg on the Southern Miss campus. After multiple auditions, Aaron Baker earned a spot with Memphis Blues, spent the summer competing nationwide, and now plans to bring those high-level skills and leadership back to his school band.
