Hattiesburg Zoo Announces Fall Homeschool Days Schedule and Subject Matter (hubcityspokes.com) — Homeschool families in Hattiesburg can sign up now for special Homeschool Days at the Hattiesburg Zoo, running the first Tuesday of each month from September through December. Kids get early zoo access, rotating conservation-themed activity stations, an animal encounter at the Giraffe Pavilion, and a Nature Swap, with discounted pricing for zoo passholders and required advance reservations online. 
2. Narcan playing a role in decreased overdoses in Forrest County (wdam.com) — Hattiesburg residents now have easier access to life‑saving Narcan, including free doses from a city homelessness task force training and a vending machine at Fire Station 6. Forrest County overdose deaths are down sharply this year, with no fentanyl cases reported so far, and health leaders credit wider Narcan use and training across the community.
3. VISITHattiesburg CEO Marlo Dorsey earns CDME designation (hubcityspokes.com) — Visit Hattiesburg CEO Marlo Dorsey has earned the tourism industry's top CDME credential and says she's bringing those new skills home to strengthen Hattiesburg's visitor economy. After two years of coursework, she joins the CDME Class of 2026, positioning the city for stronger tourism advocacy, strategy, and long-term destination development across Hattiesburg and Mississippi.
4. Sen. Wicker discusses Mississippi job growth in Hattiesburg (wjtv.com) — Business and community leaders gathered in Hattiesburg today for an Accelerate luncheon hosted by the Area Development Partnership, featuring U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker discussing Mississippi's job growth. Wicker highlighted the role of small businesses and startups in creating jobs, while local organizers stressed the value of connecting Pine Belt entrepreneurs with decision-makers in Washington, D.C.
5. MDOT urges hurricane preparedness on Katrina anniversary (wjtv.com) — From Hattiesburg, MDOT is reminding residents to get hurricane plans in place as we mark 21 years since Katrina's landfall. Officials urge coastal and South Mississippi families to know evacuation routes, download MDOT's traffic app, and review the 2026 Hurricane Evacuation Guide so they're ready if a major storm threatens again.
