Charlie Parker Day Celebration free at American Jazz Museum (kansascityonthecheap.com) — Kansas City jazz lovers can celebrate Charlie Parker's 106th birthday free at the American Jazz Museum this Saturday, August 29, with music, talks, instrument petting zoos, and raffles on 18th Street. The museum also highlights a soon‑to‑close Parker exhibit, additional concerts at the Folly and Gem theaters, and plenty of ways to hear live jazz across the city all weekend.
   

2. CEO Tracey Lewis expected out at Kansas City economic development agency (fox4kc.com) — Kansas City's Economic Development Corporation is bracing for a major leadership change, with CEO Tracey Lewis expected to depart and Councilwoman Andrea Bough reportedly in line to replace him. The shakeup could trigger a city council vacancy and reshape how the EDC pursues housing, jobs, and business growth for residents.
   

3. Critics say Kansas City apartment air conditioning law is not working (fox4kc.com) — Kansas City tenants say a 2024 city ordinance meant to protect residents during air conditioning outages isn't being enforced, leaving some apartments sweltering during recent heat waves. FOX4 found no landlord reports to the Health Department despite many tenant complaints, prompting Councilman Crispin Rea and tenant advocates to call for stronger enforcement.
   

4. Man speaks out after handcuffing at Kansas City stadium hearing (kctv5.com subscription) — Kansas City residents are watching closely as Darrell Miller challenges his handcuffing and removal from a City Council hearing on the $600 million Royals stadium deal. Civil rights leaders gathered at City Hall seeking an apology and dropped charges, while the city says security followed policy and a special prosecutor now reviews the case ahead of key TIF and rezoning votes.
