Broken glass forces Southeast Community Center indoor pool to close Monday (kshb.com) — If you were planning a swim in Kansas City today, the indoor pools at Southeast Community Center and Tony Aguirre Community Center are closed, one for broken glass and the other for chemical issues. The Gregg/Klice Community Center pool remains open this evening, giving residents another option while crews work and reopening timelines remain unknown.
   

2. Feeling pain at the pump? Kansas City challenge says there's another way (kshb.com) — Kansas City residents are being urged to cut gas costs this October by joining the Mid-America Regional Council's Green Commute Challenge, which promotes carpooling, transit, biking and the streetcar. Locals share how giving up solo driving, including from Northeast and Hospital Hill, has saved them money and improved their health while reducing air pollution across the metro.
   

3. Neighbors describe shock as investigation continues in deadly Waldo shooting (kctv5.com) — A woman was found fatally shot outside the Casey's at 79th and Wornall in Kansas City's Waldo neighborhood, leaving nearby residents and business owners shaken as police search for answers. Neighbors describe feeling generally safe but now want more police presence, while detectives still don't know exactly where the shooting occurred and are asking anyone with information to contact the TIPS Hotline.
   

4. Cleaver, Brattin react after Supreme Court settles Missouri congressional map for November (kmbc.com) — Kansas City voters now know their November congressional race will use Missouri's 2022 map, after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a newer 2025 version for this cycle. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver and challenger Rick Brattin react to the ruling, discuss how shifting district lines affected their campaigns, and look ahead to a high-stakes 5th District contest and Proposition A on redistricting.
   

5. Former Kansas City-area teacher, coach pleads not guilty to statutory rape charges (fox4kc.com) — A former Kansas City-area softball coach and teacher has pleaded not guilty to multiple statutory rape charges tied to alleged conduct with a student beginning in 2009. The case involves several area schools and districts, and investigators describe alleged encounters at his home and in his car, while also noting additional phone evidence and available sexual-assault support hotlines.
