Omaha City Council set to vote on 2027 budget on Tuesday, which includes money to pay for addition city staff (3newsnow.com) — Omaha's 2027 city budget goes to a crucial City Council vote Tuesday, shaping police staffing, parks, and library services across the city. Councilmembers may also shift funding among nonprofits, including One Omaha and Food Bank for the Heartland, and will hold public hearings at the 2 p.m. Civic Center meeting.

Shock gloves will remain in Westside Community Schools after some parents speak out at board meeting (3newsnow.com) — Shock gloves will remain in use by Omaha Police Department school resource officers at Westside Middle and High Schools, despite several parents urging the school board to remove them. Westside leaders say they're still listening and learning on safety, while OPD confirms the gloves record usage data the department currently doesn't access due to added cost.

Omaha school board strips Skinner principal of title (ketv.com) — Omaha Public Schools' board has officially removed the former Skinner Magnet Elementary principal's administrative title, citing years of low student performance despite increased district investment. After a tense hearing, OPS reassigned her to a teacher role at the same salary, while lawyers on both sides debated whether the contract change followed state law.
   

4. Omaha announces first projects backed by $40 million housing fund (ketv.com) — Omaha is directing nearly $6 million from a new $40 million Urban Core Housing Fund into four projects that will create or preserve 466 housing units, most with long-term affordability. Developments include a major apartment project at 24th and Dodge, affordable senior housing on Park Avenue, rehabbed midtown apartments, and reopening the vacant City View complex downtown.
   

5. UNO athletics donations reach record high (wowt.com) — UNO athletics in Omaha has landed a record $62.5 million in donations, money earmarked for upgraded training facilities and new baseball and softball clubhouses. Leaders say the growing Omaha Athletics brand boosts campus pride and could help strengthen student engagement and success alongside classroom efforts.
