Another BB Gun Shooting Reported At Concord Homeless Camp: Watch

Concord police and fire and rescue teams were again sent to Healy Park to investigate a person shot by a BB gun on Wednesday night.

CONCORD, NH — Concord police are investigating another BB gun shooting and a threat accusation while also assisting homeless campers displaced by the flooding Merrimack River at Healy Park.

Just before 7 p.m., several police officers were sent to the park for a report of a homeless camper who said he was in an area surrounded by water and, while trying to leave, was threatened by another homeless camper, who was carrying a pole and might be armed with a gun.

“I can hear screaming in the background,” the police dispatcher stated.

Another officer told police to access the camp area from the Interstate because the area by Basin Street was completely flooded. The first arriving officer confirmed access via Basin Street was flooded. Another officer asked if it was the same man who requested police to the area earlier, and dispatch said, No, it was a different number.

Capital Region Fire Dispatch said the patient was “conscious and alert.” Police also cordoned off the area while headquarters sent an evidence technician to the camp.

When the fire truck arrived, it blocked the onramp to protect the ambulance and EMTs.

One of the witnesses had an active non-extraditable warrant out of Florida, while another man also had active warrants and renovation paperwork, according to police dispatch. One person was taken into custody for involuntary emergency admission. Police also learned the BB gun was a black Glock replica.

More officers were requested to search for a possible suspect, a man with several priors, who was identified. They also began searching for the weapon. Some of the perp’s priors, according to posts on Patch during the past four years, include burglary, possession of burglary tools, theft, drug possession, criminal threatening, reckless conduct, criminal trespass, loitering and prowling, breach of bail, and resisting charges as well as driving violations and warrants.

Around 7:30 p.m., firefighters cleared the scene as the patient refused transportation to the hospital.

The suspect was found at Burger King on Hall Street a few minutes later. He was questioned but police said they were not getting much information from him. One officer said the suspect admitted to having a crack pipe in his pocket, according to scanner chatter. He was given his Miranda rights, but the watch commander requested officers to hold off on interviewing him until they could get more information from the camp as to what was going on.
