Armed Suspect Sought In Raymond After Officer Struck By Gunfire, Police Say

State police said the suspect, Matthew Masse, was shooting a gun at family members on Saturday. He is considered armed and dangerous.

RAYMOND, NH — Raymond residents near Ham Road and Nottingham Road were told to shelter in place Saturday afternoon as New Hampshire State Police assisted in an active search for an armed suspect.

Police called just after 1:30 p.m. to a home on Ham Road for reports a man was shooting a gun at family members. Officers responded and located the suspect, according to the release. The suspect then fired at responding officers and one officer was struck. The officer was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, according to state police.

After the shooting, the gunman ran from the scene, and additional law enforcement personnel responded to set up a perimeter in the area in an effort to contain him, police said. The search drew numerous resources from New Hampshire State Police and other law enforcement agencies.

The suspect was identified later as Matthew J. Masse, 38, of Raymond. He is about 5 feet, 11 inches tall, and weighs around 200 lbs. Masse was last seen on foot and carrying a long gun. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone who sees a person matching that description in the area should call 911 immediately. The release states that the suspect is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

The information released Saturday did not say what led to the initial call, how many shots were fired, or which agency employs the officer who was struck.

Residents were being directed to follow the shelter-in-place request in the immediate area and stay clear of the police response as the search continued Saturday.
