NH AG: Joseph Mazzitelli passed away due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound after an encounter with a police officer on Route 106.
CONCORD, NH — The state’s chief medical examiner reports that a man who was shot at by a Belmont Police officer actually died due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a press statement. Joseph Mazzitelli, 46, of Belmont, also had two other gunshot wounds. He passed away on Sept. 30, 2017, after the officer encountered him at the Irving gas station on Route 106.
“The exact number and sequence of gunshots fired by both Mr. Mazzitelli and the Belmont Police Officer involved in the incident remains under active investigation,” according to Jason Casey, an assistant attorney general.
