The Concord City Council will reconsider the proposal at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015, after postponing a vote on Monday because private financing had not yet been lined up for the proposal. It is also not yet known whether or not the installation will delay the Complete Streets Main Street project.

The proposal was rejected by the council two and half years ago due mostly to costs and widespread opposition to the proposal in the community. Since that time, the Chamber, developer Steven Duprey, NH CDFA and others are raising private money to fund the construction of the fountain. Future maintenance of the fountain would be paid for by the city.

The proposal is also being re-promoted not as a family-friendly water feature, to bring children and their parents downtown, but instead, as a way of bringing people into the city to help promote Concord as a tourist destination.
