Concord Coronavirus: Market Days Postponed; Virtual Cinema; More

Plus: 60 people out of 1,215 test positive at Concord Hospital; pay-as-you-throw suspension underway; and Hubble Telescope turns 30 Friday.

CONCORD, NH — The Concord Hospital Medical Group continues to check patients for the new coronavirus at two locations and has now identified 60 patients with positive COVID-19 results out of 1,215 people tested. Of those positive cases, three are currently receiving care at the hospital.

The hospital has also ordered tests to close 1,300 patients. The screening and education hotline is 603-789-9123 and is staffed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. Since the creation of the hotline, 386 calls have been taken, according to Jennifer Dearborn, a public information officer for the group.

Screening is taking place in Parking Lot E on the hospital campus for anyone who is experiencing a fever or non-critical respiratory symptoms such as a cough or shortness of breath. Like the hotline, the screening tent is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. About 191 patients have been triaged at the screening tent.

The group's practices are all open and are either seeing patients or conducting telemedicine and remote visits. Doctors and nurses with the medical group have performed 11,800 virtual visits since the pandemic started.

Concord Hospital is still requesting in-kind and financial contributions. The current wish list includes: N95 masks, nonlatex gloves, cloth coverings, elastic headbands with buttons for masks, half-race respirators, surgical caps, digital thermometers, unscented hand lotion, hand sanitizer, and hard candies and mints. Donations can be delivered at the hospital's visitor entrance from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. or shipped to Concord Hospital Donated Supplies, c/o Herman West, 250 Pleasant St., Concord, NH 03301.

The staff, Dearborn said, was also thankful for the kind donations made by people in the community.

Peter Silvestro, the owner of Eagle Square Deli and First Impressions Catering, recently delivered to Concord Hospital staff. Barbara Jobin, the owner of The Shed Events in Concord, delivered 11 floral arrangements to Concord Hospital last week. The arrangements were delivered to the following Hospital departments for staff to enjoy: Emergency Department, Environmental Services, Laboratory Services, Penacook Family Physicians, Intensive Care Unit, Family Place and patient care units 5North, 5South, 4East, 5East and 6East.

"We thank Barbara for her heartwarming gesture that brought smiles to many faces," Dearborn said.

Market Days Postponed

Intown Concord's board of directors have voted to reschedule the Market Days festival to late August.

"The health and safety of all involved made this decision easy," said Dawn Triconi in an email. "As we continue to work from home, Haylie and I are focusing on updating the Explore Downtown page on our website. It will be divided into sections — Live, Shop, Play, Eat and Professional Services."

The 46th annual event will be held on Aug. 20, to Aug. 22.

The festival's website has been updated and vendor information with the new data and information is now online, too.

Red River Adds Films To 'Virtual' Cinema

Red River Theatres in Concord is adding more films that can be accessed via its virtual cinema.

The most recent additions include "The Booksellers," a film about rare book dealers mostly from New York City; "The Times of Bill Cunningham," a documentary about the fashion photog; and "Beyond the Visible," a film about Swedish artist Hilma af Klint. Other films include "Saint Frances," "Best of CatVideoFest," "Sorry We Missed You," "Extra Ordinary," "The Whistlers," and "Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band."

Every rental is streamed in your home theater with a percentage of the rental fee going to Red River Theatres. The ticket fees vary but most are around $12.

More films will be added next week.

Reminder: PAYT On Hold

The city of Concord is reminding residents that while the pay-as-you-throw is on hold until the state's emergency order is lifted, there are rules for curbside collection.

Residents cannot get a refund for bags previously purchased; bulky items cannot be put to the curb; all trash must continue to be bagged (you can use any type of bag); residents are urged to continue to recycle; and residents can continue to utilize the PAYT bags during the suspension period if they have no other bags.

The city's coronavirus webpage will be updated with new information, as needed.

Hubble Turns 30 Friday

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center is inviting the public to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope during a Facebook Live event at 2 p.m.

During the center’s first ever Facebook Live event, an image captured by Hubble that has never released will be shown and educators at the center will speak about the telescope. The center is receiving a 7.5-foot by 5.5-foot image from the telescope from the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, the organization that manages the Hubble Space Telescope’s data for NASA. It will be on display when the center reopens after the pandemic has run its course.
