Convicted Sexual Assaulter, Inmate Walkaway Captured At The Mall

Breaking: Michael Maurice Chiasson Jr., an inmate on escape status for a week, was arrested by state police at the Mall of New Hampshire.

MANCHESTER, NH — A halfway house inmate on walkway status since last week has been captured, according to the New Hampshire Department of Corrections. Michael Maurice Chiasson Jr., 41, was arrested at around 2:15 p.m. on July 14, 2017, at the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester by New Hampshire State Police, according to Jeffrey Lyons, the public information officer for the NH DOC. Chiasson was placed on walkaway status last Friday after he allegedly ran away from the Calumet Transitional Housing Unit in Manchester after a corrections officer questioned him about unauthorized property that was allegedly his possession.

Chiasson, who used to live in Concord, was convicted of felonious sexual assault in Merrimack County Superior Court and was sentenced to between four and 20 years in prison, with 136 days served. Previously, according to Lyons, he served between three to six years for theft in Cheshire County. He has been in prison since 2013 and would have reached his maximum sentence length in August 2027.

According to his state criminal offenders page, Chiasson has previously been convicted on stolen property, protective order violation, burglary, theft, obstruction, and simple assault charges between 2006 and 2009.
