Convicted Elderly Sexual Assaulter, Kidnapper Placed On Escape Status By NH Corrections

CONCORD, NH — An elderly sexual assaulter and minimum-security resident at the Calumet Transitional Housing Unit in Manchester was placed on escape status Monday.

John Todd, 74, was placed on escape status around 6 p.m. after failing to return to the housing unit. State officials said he had an off-site job interview. It was discovered later he failed to appear at the interview.

Todd was last seen around 8:30 a.m. Monday, traveling on foot, and was scheduled to return by noon.

Todd is white, around 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and weighs around 165 pounds. He was wearing a dark blue jacket, jeans, and black shoes. Todd is balding with short white hair, a beard, and wears glasses.

Todd was incarcerated for kidnapping to commit sexual assault and first-degree assault, the state said in an alert. His current maximum release date was June 2024.

Corrections officials confirmed Tuesday Todd was still at large.

According to state and superior court records, Todd was convicted of two counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault and a single count of attempted felonious sexual assault in February 1975. He was convicted on a first-degree assault charge in April 1987 in Merrimack County.

In October 2019, he was accused of two criminal threatening, two felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, and four duty to inform charges, all felonies, out of Manchester. All of the charges were nolle prossed in February 2022.
