Don’t Want To Hang Up Christmas Lights In Concord? No Problem! Watch

Tahd and Rebecca Shuell of EZ Bounce New England have started a new New Hampshire Christmas lights installation and storage company.

CONCORD, NH — A capital region couple with a bounce house business is venturing into another fun line of work: installing Christmas lights.

Tahd and Rebecca Shuell of EZ Bounce New England started Christmas Light Installation to help customers with professionally installed holiday lights and storage. While busy with their rental business during the warmer months, they were trying to find something else to do during the off-season.

“She is obsessed with Christmas,” Tahd Shuell said of his wife. “She is all about hanging lights and decorating.”

“Our house becomes a winter wonderland,” Rebecca Shuell said.

So they decided to start a company installing lights for others.

Last week, they were on Samuel Drive, installing lights for a retired couple from India who wanted to surprise their family for Diwali, the Hindu celebration of lights, which started Sunday (they requested their names and exact address not be published because they did not want to spoil the surprise).

Tahd Shuell said it was the couple’s first year in business. There were several options for customers on where and how they would like the lights installed and the types of lights they would like used. The team then measures custom-fitted electrical cords and bulbs along the edges of houses, trees, pillars, and other installations.

“We custom fit to every home,” Tahd Shuell said. “Every home, we cut them exactly how they are supposed to be on there.”

In the case of the Samuel Drive home, the customers chose a street view — so the lights are not installed on every gutter around the house. They also chose to have a large wreath installed over the garage. Thin strands of white lights were also placed on a tree.

Warm white tends to be the color most customers choose, he said, but there are several options for light colors. If lights break or fail while displayed, the company will come back and fix them. In mid-January, the team takes down the lights and stores them for customers.

The cost is based on the linear foot of the wiring, about $6 to $10, and will also depend on how high the ladders must go and the extent of the installation. Most cost estimates for the first year are in the $600 to $1,800 range. In the second year, the installation is discounted.

Rebecca Shuell said customers, so far, seem to be very happy with the installations, and they are ecstatic that the homes were so pretty.

“It’s very rewarding to see your work afterward,” she said. “And that’s one thing Tahd and I both agree on is just seeing something, building something, from the ground and seeing how it grows … It’s fun.”

“We’re enjoying it, for sure,” Tahd Shuell said.
