Earthquake Hits NH

2.9 magnitude incident reported in Warner this morning off Route 103.

WARNER, NH - Yes, some Granite Staters did feel the ground boom beneath their feet less than 30 minutes ago.

Online earthquake trackers, including earthquaketrack.com, are confirming that a 2.9 magnitude earthquake hit at 9:18 a.m. on March 21, 2016, the epicenter of which was 43.26, -71.778, which places it along Ballard Brook off Red Chimney Road in Warner off Route 103 near the Bagley/Stillman Clark Parcel.

Patch readers reported feeling the earthquake in Boscawen, Bow, Concord, Hopkinton, and Webster, according to posts on social media and text messages.

This is the second time in less than a year that an earthquake has struck Warner along Route 103.

A 2.1 magnitude earthquake hit just east of Tom Pond off Exit 7 on I-89 at just before 6 a.m. on April 30, 2015, according to earthquaketrack.com. A week before that quake, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake hit Sanbornton.

The region, surprisingly, has had a number of earthquake events in recent years. In October 2014, a 2.5 magnitude quake hit Contoocook just a few miles south of this morning’s rumbling. A year before that, a 1.7 quake hit East Side Drive in Concord.
