Fire damaged some machinery at the Concord Steam plant Sunday evening. No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation. Fire units were dispatched to the plant at 123 Pleasant Street at 5:39 p.m. and the first engine was on scene five minutes later reporting black smoke from the structure. The fire was isolated to some machinery which is used to move wood chips inside the building. A working fire was declared at 6:01 p.m. bringing all remaining on duty units to the scene. Off duty firefighters were recalled and surrounding towns provided coverage to Concord stations during the incident. The fire was declared under control at 6:40 p.m. and a crew remained on scene to extinguish hot spots. Fire investigators will return to the scene Monday morning to continue their efforts to determine the fire’s cause. Concord Steam officials reported that there was no interruption in service.

Last month, firefighters extinguished an electrical fire at the facility.
