HOOKSETT, NH — A former police officer was arrested on theft charges Sunday morning after an incident at the Target store in Hooksett.

Around 7:30 a.m., police were requested to the store for a report of a man, dressed entirely in black and wearing a ski mask, who came into the store and was believed to have been involved in previous thefts, Lt. Valerie Lamy of the Hooksett Police Department said. Officers arrived and reported a man running from the store toward a vehicle in the back parking lot.

The man was detained and identified as Schleiden Meneide, 36, of Manchester.

Meneide was taken to police headquarters, processed, and released on personal recognizance. He is due in Hooksett District Court on March 27 for arraignment.

“The previous thefts remain under investigation and further charges may be forthcoming,” Lamy said.

Meneide, she said, was employed by the department between August 2019 and May 2023. He resigned “as part of a negotiated agreement” with the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, she said. The resignation allowed him to escape criminal charges for misuse of the State Police On-Line Telecommunications System. He was also placed on the state’s Exculpatory Evidence Schedule (or Laurie List) and the national registry of decertified officers.

Before working for Hooksett, Meneide was employed by the Manchester Police Department, according to previous press releases submitted to Patch. He was first hired in March 2016.
