Lakes Region State Police Saturation Patrol Bags 2 On DWI Charges

A Saugus, MA, man and a Gilmanton woman were charged with DWI while a Peabody, MA, teen was arrested on an alcohol transportation charge.

TAMWORTH, NH — The second of two “DWI Saturation Patrols” in the Granite State this weekend led to three being arrested and one being taken into protective custody, according to New Hampshire State Police. Between 9 p.m. on May 25, and 3 a.m. on May 26, 2019, state troopers from Troop E in Tamworth along with local police from Gilford, Laconia, and Belmont, stopped 104 vehicles. Lt. James Fogarty noted that all involved issued a number of summonses for speed, lane control violations, open containers, and personal marijuana possession.

Steven Berrini, 59, of Saugus, Massachusetts, and Danielle Bertrand, 56, of Gilmanton, were charged with driving while intoxicated. Betrand was also cited for suspended registrations. Destiny Alves, 19, of Peabody, MA, was arrested on a transportation of alcohol by a minor charge.

A woman from Saugus was also taken into protective custody.

“(State police) consider the detection and apprehension of impaired drivers and enforcement of the driving while intoxicated statutes to be a top priority,” Fogarty stated in a press release. “(We) will continue to collaborate and utilize DWI Saturation Patrols and other means to deter, detect and remove impaired drivers from New Hampshire roadways.”
