CONCORD, NH — A Loudon man has been indicted on murder charges for the killing of a 23-month-old boy in September. Douglas Barton, 39, of School Street in Loudon, was arrested in late September after the discovery of the death of Colton Emery in the home. He faces second-degree murder and reckless second-degree murder charges.

A Merrimack County grand jury indicted Barton on the charges last week for "knowingly causing" Colton's death "by physically assaulting him" as well as an additional count of "recklessly causing Colton’s death under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life by physically assaulting him," according to Kate Spiner, the director of communications for the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office.

Barton is being held without bail.
