Loudon Man Arrested, Accused Of Murdering 23-Month-Old Child

CONCORD, NH — A local man has been arrested about two and half days after the discovery of a dead child on School Street in Loudon, just over the city line with Concord, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office. Douglas Barton, 39, of School Street in Loudon, was arrested Friday in Manchester on a single count of second-degree murder. Barton is accused of reckless causing the death of Colton Emery, 23-months-old, "under circumstances manifesting in extreme indifference to the value of human life.

Kate Spiner, the director of communications for the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office, stated that Barton is accused of "physically assaulting Colton Emery multiple times."

New Hampshire state troopers and Manchester police arrested Barton.

Police were sent to School Street at just before 4 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of an injured child who was later pronounced dead.

Barton is no stranger to police. He was arrested in July 2016, on a burglary charge on Old Shaker Road in Loudon. A month later, he was arrested again on two felony counts of burglary in Loudon. Barton was indicted on the charges later. Also in August 2016, he was arrested in Loudon on possession of a narcotic drug and operating after a suspension, second offense, after being convicted on the driving charge in August 2012.
