Loudon Woman Arrested After Fatal Route 4 Crash In Epsom

EPSOM, NH — A Loudon woman was arrested at Concord Hospital on a felony drunken driving charge after being accused of causing a multi-vehicle crash that led to the death of a man from Maine on Wednesday.

Around 8:30 p.m., Epsom police, firefighters, and EMTs from around the region were sent to a three-vehicle crash on Route 4 just west of the Epsom traffic circle. The incident was quickly deemed a "mass casualty" incident by fire dispatch due to injuries. New Hampshire State Police troopers were also called to assist.

The initial investigation determined that a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup, being driven by Amanda Raymond, 34, of Loudon, rear ended a 2012 Jeep Liberty causing it to lose control, according to Staff Sgt. Steven Wheeler. The crash, he said, pushed the Jeep into eastbound traffic.

"At the same time a 2016 Hyundai Veloster was traveling eastbound and collided with the Jeep Liberty that had been pushed into its lane," Wheeler said.

Raymond was taken to Concord Hospital with "what appeared to be minor injuries," Wheeler said. The driver of the Jeep, a 43-year-old man from Waterboro, Maine, and a rear passenger, a 40-year-old woman, also from Waterboro, ME, were also taken to Concord Hospital with injuries. A front passenger, Peter Carver, 58, of Casco, Maine, was pronounced dead due to the crash, Wheeler said. The driver of the Veloster, a 23-year-old Epsom man, also sustained injuries, and was treated and released.

Due to the fatality and severity of the crash, the state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit was requested to handle the investigation.

"Based upon the initial investigation, it appears the operator of the Dodge Ram, Raymond, was under the influence of alcohol and crashed into the rear of the Jeep Liberty pushing it into the opposite lane of travel," Wheeler said. "She was arrested at Concord Hospital and charged with felony aggravated driving while impaired."

Raymond was released on personal recognizance bail.

Route 4 was closed for around five hours, Wheeler said. State police were assisted by Epsom and Chichester police and Epsom and Chichester fire and rescue teams.
