Man Injured After Smashing Window At Downtown Concord Apartment Building: Watch

Update: A trail of blood leads to a suspect after a window was smashed at the John Kennedy Apartments on Thompson Street; one man charged.

CONCORD, NH — Concord police are investigating a smashed window at the Annicchiarico Theatre space in the John F. Kennedy Apartment building at 1 Thompson St. on Tuesday.

Around 9:30 p.m., a tenant at the building called police after hearing a window being smashed, according to police dispatch. The tenant looked out their window and saw broken glass and a trail of blood leading back into the building. The tenant told dispatch they believed the suspect lived on the eighth floor.

Police arrived and inspected the scene. One officer surmised it appeared as if someone attempted to climb in through the window into the space.

After reaching the eighth floor, an officer requested fire and request teams, suggesting there was “a lot of blood” on the floor. Dispatch then called EMTs. A dispatcher also shared the name of a potential suspect, saying they were hostile toward police. Recently, the man repeatedly came to the police station to report an assault but would always leave before speaking with an officer, a dispatch said.

Concord fire and rescue teams arrived and staged for police near the building, according to scanner chatter.

After speaking with the possible suspect and seeing “a pretty deep gash” and a second “deep cut” on the suspect’s arm, firefighters were requested to the apartment.

EMTs took the suspect by ambulance to Concord Hospital at around 10:15 p.m.

An officer also followed EMTs to the hospital.

Around 10:30 p.m., while being cared for by emergency room technicians, the suspect had to be restrained in handcuffs due to being “agitated,” the officer told dispatch.

Maintenance for the building, which the Concord Housing Authority owns, was also called due to the amount of cleanup that was needed.

Deputy Police Chief John Thomas of the Concord Police Department said Nicholas Shaw, 43, Thompson Street in Concord has been arrested on a criminal mischief charge.

Shaw was also involved in an incident at O Steak and Seafood on Wednesday after police and EMTs were sent to the restaurant for a report of a man with lacerations. He was trespassed from the restaurant, taken into protective custody, and checked into a yellow pod at Concord Hospital.
