CONCORD, NH — A man from Manchester, who pleaded guilty to murder and other charges in October, was sentenced on Monday to at least 30 years to life in prison.

Robert Gagnon, 47, pleaded guilty to killing Robert Prest, 83, in Lyndeborough, on Nov. 23, 2022, during a robbery while he was fleeing police after shooting at Carlos Quintong, 46, of Manchester in Brookline. Quintong had been dating Gagnon’s wife after the couple separated but before they were divorced, according to court documents.

Two days before the shooting, Gagnon was in jail in Manchester after violating a protective order filed against his ex.

Gagnon led police through a multi-community pursuit, including Brookline, Lyndeborough, Greenfield, Wilton, Milford, and Nashua, where he was arrested.

Along with the 30 years to a life sentence, Gagnon received a 15- to 40-year sentence on the attempted murder charge for shooting Quintong. Michael Garrity, the attorney general’s office’s communications director, said he could have that sentence reduced to five years after completing anger management counseling and not being convicted of any other crimes.

“The attempted murder sentence runs consecutive to his second-degree murder sentence, functionally making the cumulative, minimum term of both sentences 45 years,” Garrity said.

Gagnon also received three-and-a-half to seven-year sentences for each theft charge, all suspended for 10 years after he is released from the murder charges.

Gagnon, according to WMUR-TV, apologized before his sentencing.
